History
Nearly four decades of industrial heritage. A story of transformation, resilience, and growth.
Our story is one of continuous evolution, from a single production line in the heart of Tunisia to a two-plant industrial platform serving customers across Africa, America, the Middle East and Europe. Born from a pioneering vision in 1983, we have grown through strategic partnerships, bold investments, and the dedication of our people. Today, as part of Molins, a global construction solutions group founded in 1928, we carry forward a legacy of industrial excellence while building toward a more sustainable future.
1983 — Foundation
Our company was established as Société Tuniso-Algérienne de Ciment Blanc, with capital held by Tunisian and Algerian shareholders — the first step toward building Tunisia’s white cement industry.
1987 — First production line commissioned
Our Fériana plant, located in the Governorate of Kasserine, was commissioned in November 1987 with an initial annual production capacity of 200,000 tonnes of white clinker — marking the beginning of large-scale white cement manufacturing in Tunisia.
1990s — Capacity improvements
Through continuous process optimization and equipment upgrades, production capacity was progressively increased to 300,000 tonnes of white clinker per year, strengthening our position on the domestic and export markets.
2004 — Privatization and new identity
Following a privatization process initiated in 2003 and led by BNP Paribas, 100% of shares were acquired by the Spanish industrial group PRASA. The company was renamed Société Tuniso-Andalouse de Ciment Blanc — SOTACIB — opening a new chapter of private-sector management and modernization.
2007 — Molins becomes majority shareholder
At the end of 2007, the Spanish cement group Cementos Molins (Today Molins) acquired a major stake of the capital through a capital increase, becoming the majority shareholder. This strategic move integrated our operations into a global industrial platform founded in 1928, present across four continents.
2008 — Creation of the grey cement project
A new subsidiary was created to develop a green field grey cement plant on the El Baten site in the Governorate of Kairouan — a strategic investment of 465 million Tunisian dinars to meet growing domestic demand and expand ourproduct portfolio.
2009 — Second white clinker line enters service
A second complete white clinker production line, built by Polysius with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, was commissioned in September 2009. This investment more than doubled our white clinker capacity, bringing it to over 650,000 tonnes per year by 2010.
2012 — Grey cement plant commissioned
On 14 April 2012, our Kairouan plant deliver edits first bags of grey cement, marking the start of commercial operations. With an annual capacity of above 1.2 million tonnes, the new facility significantly increased Tunisia’s national cement production capacity.
2021–2025 — Sustainability & Operational Excellence
We accelerated our commitment to safety, sustainability and digital transformation:
- Zero lost -time accidents achieved at our Kairouan plant in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025
- Launch of alternative fuels projects
- SAP implementation and Industry 4.0 digitalization across both plants
- Photovoltaic energy projects initiated with PPA format
- Reinforcement of CSR engagement with local communities
